The Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) is a consortium of colleges and universities around the Dayton area that acts as a catalyst for regional educational cooperation and promotes the sharing of resources and expertise among its members. 

One of SOCHE’s flagship initiatives is the Student Research Program, which provides research internships for approximately 90 undergraduate and graduate science and engineering students at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and the Air Force Institute of Technology

K – 12 Education

The state of Ohio is dedicated to providing a quality education for all children.  According to Education Week’s 50-State Report Card in 2008, Ohio’s education system ranked first among Midwestern states and sixth nationally. 

In the Dayton region, there are more than 130 high schools that have combined
  • Graduation rates of nearly 91 percent, and
  • Average student/teacher ratios of 15.7 to 1
