West central Ohio gives companies in Vectren’s service area immediate access to major US markets given its extensive transportation system.
Dayton and the surrounding region are within 600 miles of 61 percent of the US population and 63 percent of all manufacturers, allowing companies quick and efficient access to their target markets.
Highways
Eight major interstates cross through Ohio, directly connecting companies to markets in both Midwestern and Mid-Atlantic states. West central Ohio sits at the intersection of Interstates 70 and 75, one of the most highly traveled intersections in the United States. Interstate 70 traverses the country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains, while Interstate 75 runs from southern Florida to the Canadian border.

Rail
Ohio has 36 freight railroads that operate nearly 5,500 miles of rail lines throughout the state, ranking fourth in the nation in terms of rail freight traffic. The Dayton region is no exception, with Class I rail carriers CSX and Norfolk Southern operating major lines in and around the city.

Air
Long known as the “Birthplace of Aviation,” Ohio has 166 public-use airports and ranks third in the United States in the number of paved, lighted general aviation airports. West central Ohio is home to the Dayton International Airport, which serves 21 non-stop destinations, and is within an hour drive of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport and Port Columbus International Airport and a two-hour drive of Indianapolis International Airport.

Ports
The state of Ohio has 716 miles of navigable waterways along its borders, with nine ports on Lake Erie and 16 terminals along the Ohio River. The Dayton region is approximately an hour drive from the Ohio River system, which accounts for one-third of all US inland waterborne commerce tonnage per year and moves more cargo than the Panama Canal.
