Coal Ash Recycling Project

In a unique sustainability project, coal fly ash produced from Vectren's generating stations, A.B. Brown and F.B. Culley, is now being utilized by Geocycle US for use in cement manufacturing. Vectren signed a 10-year agreement to provide up to 200,000 tons of fly ash, a by-product of coal-fired generation, per year to Geocycle US's facility in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., rather than putting the ash in the company's ash pond. This project became fully operational in late 2009.

Vectren's fly ash, transported by an enclosed conveyor system, is deposited onto barges bound for use in cement manufacturing rather than placed in an ash pond.

Recycling bins are located throughout Vectren's facilities encouraging employees to recycle paper, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans. In addition, Vectren also recycles items such as; batteries, light bulbs, used oil, transformers, electronics, printer cartridges and scrap metals.
