Safety Education Program
Through a collaborative partnership between Vectren and
the National Energy Foundation (NEF), the Energy Safe Kids
program encourages teachers and their students to think about
energy safety, talk about energy safety and take action now
about their energy safety habits.
NEF reviewed both Indiana and Ohio core curriculum
learning standards in various content areas to create
the best strategies for implementation of Energy Safe Kids
throughout the states. The fourth grade was selected as
the target for the fall electric and natural gas safety programs.
In 2009, the program’s second year, Vectren and NEF reached
nearly 13,000 fourth grade students throughout Indiana and Ohio
with 45-60 minute presentations complete with activity booklets,
scratch and sniff natural gas stickers, home safety audits, slogan
contest and access to an interactive website designed specifically
for Energy Safe Kids.
Teachers who wish to register a fourth grade class for Vectren’s
Energy Safe Kids program can contact NEF directly. If you would
like more information on this program and how it affects your
community, e-mail Vectren directly.
