Job Summary:
JOB PURPOSE:
Under direct supervision, assists in the design, implementation and maintenance of databases/systems in a structured environment. Maintenance responsibility for database dictionaries and integration of applications throughout database design based on specifications solicited from the business. Works directly with internal customers and colleagues to resolve data conflicts and to ensure the secure and proper use of data. Ensures correct measures for database health, space requirements, capacity planning, performance, Backup and recovery of different databases. Works in daily support of business through the creation, maintenance, execution, scheduling, monitoring and reporting of batch jobs, proprietary code, and support of the IT needs of the company.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Delivery of all work assignments, directions and instructions based on the priorities and time parameters given by immediate supervisor.
Works with team to maintain the availability and security of database systems and data.
Achieve annual performance objectives established with your supervisor.
Works with colleagues on software implementation and maintenance projects with respect to database integration.
Serves as a technical expert in a given Database Administration and works with customers to develop goals/objectives for requested changes and to analyze requirements.
Participates in systems design sessions, may develop systems designs for moderately complex requirements.
Define system specifications from which programs will be created.
Create database specifications for applications
Collaborate with system and application vendors as necessary to troubleshoot and maintain data systems.
Assist with the tactical and strategic processes, data and object modeling for a variety of database environments.
Perform upgrades with peers for assigned technology products.
Contribute to the development of coding standards.
Assist with business continuity and recovery planning for all database systems.
Assist with performance tuning and troubleshooting databases.
Work as a team member on larger projects, assists with planning database related tasks and executing that plan.
Produce proper documentation for all assigned tasks.
Work flexible hours, outside standard business hours, as required, to apply system maintenance, upgrades or to perform project implementation activities.
Application support activities not limited to database administration activities and as directed by immediate supervisor using skills in PL/SQL area.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications
Required:
Associate’s degree
Familiarity in working in UNIX environment preferred
Experience with PL/SQL, programming skills required
Experience working with Job Scheduling Software preferred
Experience with formal EDI standards and protocols preferred
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience
Required:
Typically will have 1-2 years prior work or educational experience working with large, relational databases.
Preferred:
Demonstrated ability to accept assignments, escalate issues and achieve on-time delivery of assigned work.
Functional / Technical Requirements
Required:
Demonstrated and verifiable abilities in managing complex databases and using SQL
Knowledge and skills in SQL, PL/SQL.
Preferred:
Certification in Oracle 10g database administration
